Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef rib-eye or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion medium, thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and black pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

  • Add the beef, onion, and green onions to the marinade. Mix well to ensure every piece is coated. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

  • Preheat your grill or griddle pan over medium-high heat.
  • Grill the marinated beef in a single layer (do this in batches if necessary), for 1-2 minutes on each side or until it reaches your desired doneness.
  • Garnish the Bulgogi with sesame seeds and additional chopped green onions if desired. Serve hot with rice or wrapped in lettuce leaves.

Notes

The key to Bulgogi is the marination process. Allow the meat to marinate for at least an hour, or better yet, overnight for maximum flavor.
